By operation with the multipart document of the same purpose it is possible to achieve faster by means of dialog box Acrobat PDF: Go to page (Acrobat PDF: to Pass to page) (fig. 14.3) which is caused by click on the button displaying number of current page.

In a review window (fig. 14.2) miniature images of pages of the document are displayed. If they miss in the imported document in a window message Thumbnail Not Available (the Miniature is deduced misses). Besides, if in an operating system there are the fonts used in the document on the screen the appropriate message is deduced and there is a font changeover (font substitution).

Command Place to (Place) imports the document on the active layer in the open document of the program of adobe Illustrator and does it by following methods.

	The image is allocated with establishment of communication with the initial document (linked), in this case actually the image does not turn on in the document of the program of adobe Illustrator.
	The image is allocated without establishment of such communication (embedded), in this case the image is actually implemented in the document of the program of adobe Illustrator and increases file size.

Dialog box Place to (Place) differs from dialog box Open to (Open) presence of flags Link to (Connect), Template (Template) and Replace to (Replace).

At layout of images in format Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) flag Link to (Connect) it is necessary to leave in the installed state in the event that further editing of the image it is not required (in the document the conditional image in the form of a rectangle with diagonals) and if operation as with vectorial object this flag should be removed (fig. 14.4 is necessary) is located only.

For display of an imported picture to the screen it is necessary to fulfill following actions:

	To save a picture with the image for print preview (preview image). The information on it look further in section "document Saving in format EPS" the present chapter;
	To install flag Show Images in Outline (to Display the pointwise drawing in a key line mode) dialog box Document Setup (document Parameters) which is caused by menu command File with the same name (File).

Editing of the bound images

In Adobe Illustrator program palette Links (Communications) (fig. 14.5) which is intended for operation with the allocated and bound images (identification, a choice, display and update) is provided.

To cause a palette on the screen, it is necessary to execute command Show Links (to Show communications) menu Window (Window).

In palette Links (Communication) the list of images in which each line the name of the imported file and its reduced image, and also some auxiliary icons are presented is displayed.

For application of any commands to one or several imported images last it is necessary to select, clicking on appropriate lines in palette Links (Communication). With a key [Shift] a serial row of lines, with a key [Ctrl] — in the arbitrary order is selected.

To select one of the imported images in the document, it is necessary to click on an appropriate line in palette Links (Communication), and then to execute command Go to Link (to Select the bound image) the menu of a palette or to click on the button with the same name () in the lower part of a palette.

In palette Links (Communication) the list of all bound and allocated images of the given document is presented. Thus, if the bound image has been changed after switching-on in the document, in line with his name the exclamation point () and if it is lost (it is remote, transferred to other folder, it is renamed and etc.), — a question mark is displayed ().

Advantage of the given palette consists that in it the information on characteristics of images, on rupture of communication of the image with an exterior file is displayed. Besides, the palette allows to cause the initial program for editing, to replace one image with another. Thus all transformations, which were applied to the previous variant (scaling, rotation or shift), are saved and concerning a new variant.

About each imported image it is possible to receive more or less exhaustive information if twice to click at line in palette Links (Communication) or to execute command Information (Information) of the menu of a palette. On the screen dialog box Link Information {the Information on the bound image) (fig. 14.6) in which near to the reduced copy of the image following convergence is resulted is deduced:

	Name (a file Name)		Created It (is created)
	Location (Layout)		Modified It (is changed)
	Size (Size)		Transform It (is transformed)
	Kind (a file Format)

Palette Links (Communications) has own "control" with which help it is possible to change the size of images, and also composition and the order of the list of the imported images.

	Command Palette Options (palette Parameters) displays with the same name dialogue, a window, in; котрром it is possible to define the size, "miniatures" or to refuse their output to the screen.
	Command Sort by Names (to Sort by a name) provides list display in alphabetic order (English language).
	Command Sort by fund (to Sort by a format) provides display of the list taking into account the file extension (for example, weight files of format PSD, then all files of format JPEG and etc.).
	Command Sort by Status (to Sort by a state) provides list sharing by a principle "allocated — connected": at first in the list there are allocated (embedded), and then the bound images (linked).

	Command Show All (to Show all) deduces the complete list of all importi-rovannyh images.
	Command Show Missing (to Show images with the lost communication) deduces the list only those bound images at which communication with the source file (the source file is lost century other folder) can be remote, renamed or moved.
	Command Show Modified (to Show the changed images) deduces the list of the bound images which have been changed after the last update.
	Command Show Embedded (to Show the allocated images) deduces the list only the allocated images.

Adobe Illustrator program allows to replace one bound image with another. For this purpose it is necessary to use command Replace to (Replace) the menu of a palette or button Replace Link (to Replace the bound image) () in the lower part of a palette. The new image saves the size, layout and parameters of transformations of the replaced image.

If the image which is connected to the given file, is independently edited, button Update Link (to Update the bound image) () in the lower part of a palette and the menu command of a palette with the same name allow to replace an old variant of the image on new (to "update" the image).

That the bound image was a part of the document and lost the touch with the initial document, it is enough to execute command Embed Image (to Allocate the image). In line there is an appropriate icon.

To cause the program in which there was an image, it is necessary to execute command Edit Original (to Edit the original) the menu of a palette or to click on the button with the same name () in the lower part of a palette.

Nota Bene. It is necessary to mean one singularity only: Adobe Illustrator program, as well as any other application, defines the program-source on that association which "is registered" for the given extension of a file in operational environment Windows. Result of it can become loading of the program which at all is not not only a source of the given image, but also at all the editor of a drawing, and, for example, program-wash - with "browser" (viewer).

By operation with the color imported images of format EPS it is necessary to consider that the images allocated without communication are a part of the document and, being are sent on the printing device, appear are involved in managerial processes by color, and allocated with communication — are not present.

Communication of objects with URL

Any object created in the program of adobe Illustrator, can serve as the link to the web page if to connect it with a line URL (Uniform Resource Locator). This possibility is entered into the program for convenience of preparation of illustrations for web pages and allows to appropriate necessary links even before illustration layout in one of special programs of creation of web pages.

The link to the URL-address forms in palette Attributes (Attributes) (fig. 14.7). In the field URL the necessary address is entered or selected from the available list.

Nota Bene. It is necessary to pay attention that the prefix http:// should be present at the address is mandatory.

Then this illustration should be exported to formats, admissible at layout on web pages, and to use them in the program of creation of web pages, for example, in program Macromedia Dreamweaver. About setting of parameters at export of images to the specified formats look further sections "Export of the document to formats for web pages" and "Export of the document to format J PEG" this chapter.

For check of a correctness of the link it is possible to push button Browser (Browser) and if on the computer program Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer (fig. 14.8 is installed) and at present communication with the Internet-provider Adobe Illustrator program transfers all necessary data that connection to the specified ULR-address has been carried out is provided.

The list palettes Attributes (Attributes) can store a certain amount of links, their number is set in dialog box Pallette Options (palette Parameters) (fig. 14.9) which is caused by the menu command of a palette with the same name. The maximum value — 30 is by default installed.
