Tools of group of Turnips

Principal tools of the program with which should use in 99 % of cases, tools groups Pen (Pen) (fig. 5.10) are.

With their help it is possible to create any circuit with the maximum accuracy and the maximum rationality (to define an optimal amount of nodes which should be allocated only in necessary places) and to change its any reference points and segments. These tools allow the user to become the creator of the form which in graphic design solves all.

Drawing of rectilinear segments

The elementary graphic element is the direct line, to construct which easily enough, using tool Pen (Pen) ().

For this purpose it is necessary to include the tool, to bring the cursor to starting point and to click the left mouse button. On a click place there is the filled small square displaying the first reference point of a segment which is active before creation of the following point.

Then it is necessary to move the cursor on a new place where the following point should be allocated, and again to click the left mouse button. Two points incorporate a direct line. If the line with slope angle is necessary, to the multiple 45 degrees, it is necessary to retain a key [Shift].

Thus, clicking in proper places, it is possible to receive the arbitrary polygon with direct segments (fig. 5.11).

Fig. 5.11. Creation of a circuit from direct segments by means of tool Pen

To complete an open circuit, it is necessary to fulfill one of following actions: to click on tool Pen (Pen) in a palette of tools or, pushing a key [Ctrl], to click the mouse button away from a circuit.

It is possible to use also "distracting manoeuvre": in menu Edit (Editing) to execute command Deselect All (to Cancel selection). After that it is possible to start to draw a new line or to include other tool.

To close a circuit, it is necessary to click on starting point while near to the cursor there will be the small circle symbolizing "exact hit".

The last point can be moved, if, without releasing the mouse button, to push a key [Gap].

Types of reference points

At connection of several segments (the elementary Bezier curves about which there was a speech in chapter 4) reference points can be two types (fig. 5.12).

The reference point, connecting two curves without a fracture, is called as a smooth reference point (smooth anchor point).
The reference point, connecting two curves "on a bend", is called as an angular reference point (corner anchor point).

Fig. 5.12. Examples of smooth and angular reference points.

At relocation of the controlling line ("lever") concerning a smooth reference point, both curves change. And at relocation of the controlling line concerning an angular reference point, the curve allocated with the same side changes only.

Drawing of the curvilinear segments

By means of tool Pen (Pen) () can be created easily also кризые. For this purpose it is necessary to include the tool, to bring the cursor to starting point and, pushing the left mouse button, to pull aside. The cursor changes a type for an arrow, from the appeared reference point controlling lines are advanced. The size and slope angle of controlling lines define curvature of the segment entering into this point.

As receive following reference points and define curvature of lines (fig. 5.13). However, to correct to (edit) a line it is possible during any subsequent moment after drawing end (therefore in the beginning happens to outline enough пpодходящее an amount of reference points for "a planned" circuit).

By default the new reference point forms by the smooth.

Fig. 5.13. Stages of creation of a circuit with smooth reference points

For creation of an angular reference point it is necessary to use a key [Alt] which is pushed at cursor finding on a controlling point. Then follows, without releasing a key [Alt], to pull a controlling line in the opposite side, it allows to finish segment creation (fig. 5.14).

The last point can be moved, if, without releasing the mouse button, to push a key<Пробел>.

Plotting key rules

At creation of a vectorial circuit it is necessary to adhere to following simple rules.

Fig. 5.15. Creation S-shaped (1) and convex segments (2)

For obtaining of a convex segment of a curve the first controlling point is necessary for moving towards prospective convexity, and the second — to the opposite side. If the second point to move to the same side the S-shaped curve (rice 5.15 turns out).
It is necessary to use as less as possible reference points to receive difficult enough circuit (fig. 5.16):
  • For a curve having one direction, one reference point on 120 degrees is required;
  • For a curve smoothly changing the direction, it is required two reference points (in the beginning and in the end);
  • For a curve changing the direction at an angle, the reference point in each inflection point is required.
