Palette Swatches (Directory) (fig. 8.9) is intended for storage of samples of color, graded-index extensions and decorative filling which form for the further usage. To transfer samples it is possible from palettes
Color (Synthesis) and Gradient (Gradient), and also from color indicators Fill (Filling) and Stroke (Обводка) palettes of tools.

All new colors, extensions and the decorative filling created by the user and saved in palette Swatches (Directory), concern only the current document. Proceeding from it, in each document it is possible to save an own dial-up of samples. If it is required, that the user samples appeared in a palette by default, it is necessary to use a load file. Look about it долее in section "User load file" of the given chapter.
To deduce palette Swatches (Directory) on the screen, it is necessary to execute command Show Swatches (to Show the directory) menu Window (Window).
Click on the sample in palette Swatches (Directory) transfers color, an extension or decorative filling to palettes Color (Synthesis) or Gradient (Gradient) accordingly, on the active color indicator in a palette of tools and if there is a selected object, to it is appropriated the same parameters of filling or обводки.
Palette Swatches (Directory) has own menu of commands which is caused by click on a triangular arrow more to the right of a bookmark. In particular, there the commands defining a type of a palette are presented.

| Command Select All Unused (to Select not used samples) allows to select all samples who are not used in the given document and which can be deleted without serious consequences in a palette. Samples in a palette can be allocated in this or that sequence which is defined by two commands.

Command Sort by Name (to Sort by names) provides the alphabetic order of names of samples. |

Command Sort by Kind (to Sort by types) provides layout on types, and in such sequence: at first color samples, then graded-index extensions and in the last queue decorative filling. |
In the lower part of a palette buttons which samples on types allow to display in a palette are presented (from left to right).

Palette Swatches (Directory) allows to add the arbitrary amount of samples, to double them and to delete.
For adding of the new sample it is necessary in palette Color (Synthesis) or Gradient (Gradient) to prepare color or an extension or to create object — an element of decorative filling.
Then it is possible to use button New Swatch (the New sample) (
) in the lower part of a palette (the second button on the right), allowing automatically to transfer color or an extension from the color indicator of a palette of tools, or command New Swatch with the same name (the New sample) from the menu of a palette which displays dialog box New Swatch (the New sample) (fig. 8.12).

In the field Swatch Name (Name) it is necessary to enter the arbitrary name or to accept offered by the program, and from list Color ROUND (color Type) to select one variants: Process Color (Composite) — for determination of triad color Spot Color (Плашечный) — for determination плашечного colors.
Color or graded-index extension can be "dragged" from the color indicator of a palette of tools and to allocate not only on a free space, but also between any pair existing samples.
If at color "drag and drop" to retain a key [Ctrl] color of any model will be converted in плашечный. The Same purpose can reach, if at click on button New Swatch (the New sample) to retain a key [Ctrl].
Flag Global (Global) is installed in the event that the user prefers to change globally parameters of composite (triad) color in all document. More in detail about it it is described further in section "Global change of color" of the given chapter.
In the field Color Mode (Color mode) it is possible to select one of four modes (CMYK, RGB, HSB or Grayscale) to define color parameters.
To delete become unnecessary a sample, it is necessary to select it, clicking on it the left mouse button. If it is required to select for removal it is a little exemplary, allocated at random it is necessary to retain a key [Ctrl], and for removal allocated it is exemplary successively, ~ a key [Shift]. Then it is possible to use one of removal methods.

Nota Bene. At removal плашечного (spot) or global triad (composite) (global process) colors it is necessary to mean that all objects by which these colors are appropriated, will have a converting of colors on not global triad (composite) colors. |
In palette Swatches (Directory) possibility of changeover of one sample on another is provided. For changeover performance it is necessary to retain pushed a key [Alt]. Thus there is a global changeover in objects, the exception is made by the triad (composite) colors which formation of parameters happened at removed flag Global (Global).
Command Duplicate Swatch (to Create a copy of the sample) is intended for copying of the selected samples in the palette menu. The Same result can achieve if to "drag" a sample on button New Swatch (the New sample) ().
Command Swatch Options (Parameters of the sample) from the palette menu displays the dialog box with the same name identical to dialog box New
Swatch (the New sample) which is caused also by double click on the specific sample.
In this dialog box it is possible to change a name of the sample, to transform three-adnyj (composite) color in плашечный and on the contrary. In the course of a color separation such плашечный color becomes by default triad color if it is required reverse it is necessary to remove flag Convert to Process (All triads-gshchmi) in dialog box Separation Setup (Color separation). The Detail information about it look in chapter 16.
Assignment of color by a method "drag-and-drop"
Cамым a simple and "easy" method of filling of object is drag and drop "colors, an extension or decorative filling from the color indicator of a palette of tools, palettes Color (Synthesis) and Gradient ' the Gradient). This method allows"to color"objects without selection.
At drag and drop the object receives parameters обводки or filling in for-znsimosti from what indicator in a palette of tools is active — the indicator of filling or the indicator обводки.
Command Swatch Libraries
Command Swatch Libraries (Library of samples) menu Window (Window) is intended for importation in an actual palette of color samples, graded-index extensions and decorative filling from other documents of adobe Illustrator. Besides it, and mainly, the command gives the chance to work with many color libraries which are widely used in polygraphy, for example, color system PANTONE Process Color.
Importation of color samples from other documents
Command Other Library (Other library) menu Window/Swatch Libraries (Window/library of samples) allows to use in the current document color samples, graded-index extensions and decorative filling from other documents of adobe Illustrator, for this purpose it is necessary, as experts, "подгрузить" tell a palette.
At command performance on the screen dialog box Select a library to open (Select library for loading) in which it is necessary to select a demanded file is deduced and to push button Open to (Open).
All samples saved in the document with palette Swatches (Directory), are transferred to the current document in a special palette, whence they can be "dragged and appropriated to objects, and also by means of command Add to Swatches (to Add all new плашечные colors) the palette menu to copy them in the main palette Swatches (Directory).
At copying of objects from one document parameters of colors are transferred to another together with them (global composite, плашечных colors, and also parameters of filling, both graded-index, and decorative) also. If names of colors or filling coincide, but differ with parameters on the screen dialog box Swatch Conflict (the Conflict of samples) (fig. 8.13 is deduced) in which two variants of the resolution of conflict are given:

Switch Merge swatches (to Connect samples) provides merge of samples in one with usage of color parameters of the document of assignment; |

Switch Add swatches (to Add samples) provides adding of samples at which name there is a word "copy". |
Flag Apply to all (to Apply to all) should be installed, if the conflict concerns several samples simultaneously.

Command Swatch Libraries (Library of samples) allows to use also enough great number of standard color libraries of various firms. Such libraries, as PANTONE Process Color System, Toyo Ink Electronic Color Finder 1050, Focoltone color system, Trumatch color swatching system, DIC Process Color Note and the libraries intended for web design here concern.
Each color library represents the table of a certain type in which samples of color, their names and parameters are given.

Nota Bene. It is necessary to pay attention that in this table to change color parameters it is not authorized, to what the icon in the form of the crossed pencil in left lower to a palette corner (fig. 8.14) testifies. |
If needed to edit color, it should be "dragged" in palette Swatches (Directory).
If any color library is permanently used in operation, it it is possible to "force" to boot together with the program. For this purpose it is necessary to execute command Persistent (Constant) in the menu of a palette of the given library.
Plashechnye colors from these libraries at a color separation will be transformed by default to triad colors if it is required reverse it is necessary to remove flag Convert to Process (All triad) in dialog box Separation Setup (Color separation). More in detail about it look in chapter 16.
Color library PANTONE (firm PANTONE, Carlstadt, New Jersey. U.S.A.) it is most actively used in polygraphy as each color has an equivalent in color model CMYK. In the program three variants of library — PANTONE Coated (fig. 8.14), PANTONE Uncoated and PANTONE Process are presented.

Color library TRUMATCH (firm TRUMATCH, New York, U.S.A) offers more than 2000 colors entering into color spanning of model CMYK. Thus each color has to 40 shades. In library gradation gray in various combinations of a polygraphic triad that allows to solve a balance problem on the gray also are presented.
Color library FOCOLTONE (firm FOCOLTONE, Stafford, United Kingdom) consists of 763 colors of model CMYK and offers effective - редства for struggle against problems приводки.
Color library TOYO Color Finder 1050 (firm Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co., Tokyo, Japan) consists of 1000 colors based on standards of Japanese polygraphy.
Color library DIC Process Color Note (firm Dainippon Ink and Chemicals, Inc., Tokyo, Japan) consists of 1280 colors.
Color library Web includes 216 colors which are standard for the browsers working with a videocard, supporting only 8-bit color.
Color libraries System (Windows) and System (Mac OS) offer 256 standard colors used in operating systems Windows and Mac OS.
The user load file
If to create the user load file which contains the data for palettes Swatches (Directory) they become accessible at each loading of the program and at discovery of each new document.
For creation of a new load file at first it is necessary to save copies of current load files of adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK and Adobe Illustrator Startup_RGB which it is allocated in a folder/PLUG-INS, in any other folder.
Then to open load files which contain objects with all colors, extensions and the filling accepted in the program by default.
In this document it is possible to delete all unnecessary elements, simultaneously deleting them and from appropriate palettes, and also to add new colors, gradients and filling as it is described above in section "Palette Swatches" of the given chapter.
Besides, it is possible to carry out those setting in dialog boxes Document Setup (document Parameters) which become setting by default.
After performance of all setting files are saved under a former name and are located in a folder/plug-ins. This file will be used at each loading of the program for determination of setting by default.

At a choice in palette Swatches (Directory) any global triads ths (composite) or плашечного colors, and also at selection of object with the specified colors in palette Color (Colour) appears band Tint (Shade) (fig. 8.15) which is used for shade determination плашечного or composite color in a range from 0 to 100 %.
At a choice in palette Swatches (Directory) of any triad (composite) color, at selection of object with filling by triad colors it is possible to receive also shades of this color if in palette Color (Synthesis) to move one of engines at a pushed key <Shifr>. In this case all engines are moved synchronously, their relative layout thereby is saved and form in certain limits (all ' slightly more difficult, than in the relation плашечных colors) shades of triad (composite) color.

The received shades плашечных and global composite colors can be saved again in palette Swatches (Directory) as independent colors. The shade is saved under a basic name, but with adding of value of percent (fig. 8.16).
