Packet configuration

As packet is called the folder containing all necessary for press of publication. Instead of collecting files manually, execute command Package (to Generate a packet).

Configuration of a packet for the press

1. Execute commands File-> Package. Program InDesign views the document, and then opens dialog box Printing Instructions (Instructions on the press) - fig. 17.44.

2. Fill fields of this dialog box.

The information in dialog box Printing Instructions is saved at the subsequent reconfiguration of the document.

3. Click by button Continue to (Continue). On the screen there will be dialog box Create Package Folder (to Create a packet folder) - fig. 17.45.

4. Enter the folder name, containing files.

5. Select following options of configuration:

- Copy Fonts (roman only) (to Copy fonts (only Latin)) - copies the roman types used in the document;

- Copy Linked Graphics (to Copy the bound drawing) - copies the publications connected to a file, but the images not built in it;

- Update Graphic Links in Package (to Update communications in the initial publication before packet formation) - automatically updates any changed images;

- Use Document Hyphenation Exceptions Only (to Use transfer exceptions to the rules only in the document) - restricts transfer exceptions to the rules only to the dictionary used in the document (the section «Control of arrangement of transfers» in chapter 15 see);

- Include Fonts and Links from Hidden Layers (to Include the latent layers) - adds fonts and images of invisible layers;

- View Report (to Open the report) - launches the text editor and opens the report created together with the document.

Click by button Package to collect necessary files in a folder.

About copying of fonts

In case you select transfer of fonts, on the screen there will be a warning of validity of copying of fonts (fig. 17.46). You for certain heard about the users who have got to prison for illegal copying of the software. It is necessary to tell that the rules spread to operation with fonts, are strongly tangled.

Some companies-developers of fonts, for example Adobe, allow to send a font copy together with the publication provided that the service bureau which will print a file, owns own copy of a font. Other companies allow to send a font with a file, however the font can be used only for printing of your documents. Check up the license applied on a font.

So, what for to service bureau a copy of your font if there there is the? Experts should be assured that the font used by them is similar to a font of your document.

That is why in many service bureaus enormous means for purchase of the full font libraries are spent. It is not necessary to send a font with a file in case in bureau there is no font copy. In such situation or bureau it is necessary to acquire a font, or you should create a packet with all necessary materials.

Certainly, when you use the program like FontLab for creation of own fonts, you have a just cause to copy and transfer them to everybody.
