Layout of images
The majority of images for program InDesign undertake from different sources. You can use scanners or numeral cameras to create a drawing, or special programs of type of adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia FreeHand or Adobe Acrobat. The most simple location mode of the image - automatically to create the frame by importation.
Automatic layout of the image in the frame
- Execute commands File-> Place (the File-> to Place). Dialog box Place (fig. 8.1) opens.
- Find a file which want to import.
- Install flag Show Import Options (to Show filter setting) and open dialog box Image Import Options (filter Setting) before to interpose a file (fig. 8.2).
- Click ОК to load a drawing in the image cursor (fig. 8.3).
Retain pushed SHIFT key when click by button Choose to (Open), to open dialog box Image Import Options even if flag Show Import Options is not installed.
- Click the mouse to place a drawing in the square-topped frame of the same size in image quality.
Or
Drag the cursor on page to set the size of the square-topped frame.

Formats of files
In documents of program InDesign different formats of graphical representations can be added. These formats are used for the professional press:
- Adobe Illustrator (AI);
- Adobe Photoshop (PSD);
- Encapsulated PostScript (EPS);
- Desktop Color Separation (DCS);
- Joint Photographer's Expert Group (JPEG);
- Portable Document Format (PDF);
- Portable Network Graphics (PNG);
- PostScript (PS);
- Scitex Continuous Tone (SCT);
- Tagged Image File Format (TIFF).
Though illustrations in following formats can be interposed into documents InDesign, they are not recommended to be used for professional polygraphy. They are comprehensible to the press with low resolution:
- Macintosh Picture (PICT);
- Graphics Interchange Format (GIF);
- PC Paintbrush (PCX);
- Windows Bitmap (BMP);
- Windows Metafile (WMF).
At drag and drop of the cursor of loading of the image the size of the frame is installed only. The image size does not change.
You can place the image in already existing frame. It is convenient in that case when empty frames are installed as "fillers" for a drawing.
Image layout in the existing frame
- Select one of three tools to create the square-topped, oval or polygonal frame.
You can use tools with which help there are graphic or empty frames.
- Use tool Selection (the Black arrow) or Direct Selection (the arrow Is white->) to select the frame.
- Use command File (the File-> to Place) to find the image which needs to be interposed
- Click by the button to Open in dialog box Place. The file will be automatically interposed into the frame.
For creation of the form of the frame it is possible as to use tool Ren (Pen) see chapter 7.
Image changeover in the existing frame
- Select the frame containing иллюо трацию with which want to replace,
- Execute commands File-> Place what to find the image which нужн to interpose.
- Install flag Replace Selected Item (Instead of the selected image) in dialog box Place (fig. 8.1).
- Click by button Choose to (Place) in dialog box Place. The new image automatically replaces frame contents.
Relocation or image copying
- Use tool Direct Selection to select the image with which it is necessary to replace.
- Execute commands Edit-> Cut (Editing-> to Cut) or Edit-> to Rubbish (Editing-> to Copy). The image will be placed in a clipboard.
- Select the frame to which want to move the image.
- Execute commands Edit-> Paste Into (Editing-> to Paste). Clipboard contents will be interposed into the frame.
