The implemented drawing

Normally in file InDesign the link to the image contains only. You can implement, however, a drawing in file InDesign. It means that all information necessary for the press of a file, will be in document InDesign.

The implemented drawing increases file size InDesign.

Implementation of the placed image or the text

  1. Select the placed image.

    Or

Select the frame which contains the imported text.

  2. Select option Embed File (to Implement a file) from the menu of palette Links. If selected a drawing, near to a file name in palette Links there will be indicator Embed (is implemented).

Or

If you selected the text, the file name disappears from palette Links.

The implemented text files do not influence file size InDesign.

In what cases to implement a drawing in imposition

You can have a temptation to interpose almost your drawing into document InDesign, because to send one file in service bureau much easier, than to send together with it graphic files. (For more information on preparation of files for printing see chapter 17.)

The implemented drawing increases the size of an InDesign-file. In total some the big images can inflate it till the huge sizes. It means that the file long time will open or be saved. However problems does not arise, if you implement small pictures of type of logos.

I consider necessary to avoid the implemented drawing, not to worry about file size.

As soon as you implemented a drawing, the original file on a hard disk any more is not required.

How to change the implemented image to the connected

  1. Select the implemented image.
  2. Select option Unembed File (to Eliminate a file) from the menu of palette Links. There will be a window of warning Unembed
  3. Click by button Yes (Yes) again to connect the implemented drawing to a file of the original which has been placed in program InDesign.

Or

Click by button No (is not present). There will be a dialog box with a sentence to select the location of a new file.
