Operation with paragraph lines

Is better to create similar lines by means of lines of the paragraph which are moved together with it and can be applied as a part of the directory of styles.

Creation of a line of the paragraph

  1. Select the paragraph to which want npименить a line.
  2. Select option Paragraph Rules (a paragraph Line) from the menu of palette Par graph (Paragraph) - fig. 9.11. On the screen there will be dialog box Paragrap Rules (fig. 9.12).
  3. For the job of position of a line select option Rule Above (the Line over the paragraph) or Rule Below (the Line under the paragraph) - fig. 9.13.
  4. Install flag Rule On (to Display a line).

    5. If lines and are necessary for you over, and the paragraph, repeat steps 3 and 4. 5. Specify a thickness of a line (fig. 9.14).

  5. Install flag Overprint Stroke (line Superimposing) to set superimposing - fig. 9.14.
  6. From falling out menu Color select color of a line (fig. 9.14).

    7. Option Text Color (Text color) automatically changes color of a ruler at change, text colors.

  7. Selecting color, specify its shade in the field Tint (Shade).

The line can be colored only by means of colors from palette Swatches.

The length of a line (named Width) can be various. The line can be in the width about a column or about the text, and also have an indent concerning a column or text fields.

The job of width of a line

  1. Select one of following options of drop down list Width (On width) dialog box Paragraph Rules (fig. 9.15):
    • Column (Columns) - a line in width about a text column;
    • Text (Text) - a line in width about the line of the text nearest to a line.

    2. If want to draw a line under the paragraph terminating in the short line, the line will be in the length about this line.

  2. Install value of an indent of a line from the column or text left edge in the field Left Indent (the Indent at the left) - fig. 9.16.

The positive value sets a l indent нии inside. Negative зн чение sets a line overhang outside. The line can support boundary of the text frame.

By default a paragraph line размещав ся along a basic line of the text. You мож | those to move it above or more low базовс lines. It is called as line offset.

Line offset

Enter value of offset in the field Offs (Offset) of dialog box Paragraf Rules.

The line allocated over the paragraph, it is possible to lift above a basic line by means of the positive values.

The line allocated under the paragraph, it is possible to lower below a basic line at input of the positive values.

The negative values allow to drift lines in opposite directions.

By means of paragraph lines it is possible with здать set special effect the Most widespread of them - on a paragraph line (эффе knockouts) to receive text superimposing white бу you on a black background. However use of any light color on any dark background is possible also.

Creation of knockout of the text by means of lines

  1. Make light color of a line of the text.
  2. Open dialog box Paragraph Rules (fig. 9.18).
  3. Draw a line under line.
  4. Set such thickness of a line to superimpose the text. For example, for the text in the size of 12 points minimum value of a thickness of a line should make 12 points.

    5. If the text consists of several lines, it is necessary to calculate a thickness of a line taking into account value of leading and an amount of lines.

  5. Set the negative value of offset.

    6. Value of offset should be a bit less thickness of a line. For example, for a line in the thickness of 14 points it is necessary to set offset-11 of points.

  6. Install flag Preview (Print preview) to see result of change of adjustments of a thickness and offset.
  7. If needed change a thickness and offset.
  8. Click ОК to receive a line.

True story

For the first time I started to study imposition programs on the computer of my chief in advertizing agency. I remained after operation, mastered programs and created own documents.

When I reached command Rules (word Rule is translated from English and as «a ruler, a line» and as "rule") decided that the rules are stored in this place, helping to control the program. As the computer was not mine, I and did not use this command.

Only after a while (and after change of several places of operation) I at last found out that disappeared behind a word «Rules».
